Yaaic 1.0

It took quite some time but now a new release of Yaaic is available!

Yaaic 1.0 features a new revamped UI looking more like a modern Ice Cream Sandwich / Jelly Bean Android app. Swiping through channels is much smoother thanks to the ViewPager component that replaced the old ConversationGallery. At the top is now a new indicator replacing the dots at the bottom. The indicator uses 2 colors to indicate the state of conversations currently not visible: Blue channels have unread messages waiting and yellow channels are indicating that there's a highlighted message waiting for you.

I hope you enjoy the new version of Yaaic.  A bunch of new screenshots can be found on the screenshots page. For a more complete list of changes read the changelog.

Yaaic 0.9 - SASL, new notification system, more settings!

Yaaic 0.9 is now available for download. There's now support for SASL authentication available. As Freenode has blocked some mobile networks a while ago using SASL is the only possibility to connect to Freenode for these users.

Yaaic 0.8 comes with mIRC color support and smilies!

Yaaic 0.8 is now available for download! Due to an annoying bug the next release of Yaaic is available quite early after the 0.7 release: When connecting to a server and your nickname was already in use Yaaic did not recognize your new nickname (alias) and therefore did not open any channels when joined.

However the new release brings some cool new features written by liato: Support for mIRC color codes and graphical smilies (see screenshot on the left). Of course both options can be configured in the settings and you don't need to use them if you don't like them. ;)

In addition to that Hasan Kiran translated Yaaic to turkish. That's the eighth language Yaaic has been translated to! Hoorray! Besides that some "force closes" have been fixed making Yaaic again more stable than before!

Yaaic 0.7 released!

A brand new Yaaic version is available for download! First of all thanks to liato and kugel who both contributed a lot to this version!

Yaaic 0.7 should work with most bouncers and networks. In addition to that Yaaic now supports different screen resolutions. However the bad news is we had to stop to support Android 1.5 in order to make this work. Therefore you need at least Android 1.6 to use the new Yaaic version.

Yaaic 0.6.1 released today!

Due to a bug in the frensh and spanish translation which could lead to crashes on connecting to a server I released Yaaic 0.6.1 today.

The bug is fixed in this version and in addition to that there are two new main features: In the settings you can disable showing join and part messages if they annoy you. Liato contributed a patch enabling vibration on highlights. Thanks!

For everything else see the CHANGELOG at Github. Have fun with the new release!

Translating Yaaic

Do you want to translate Yaaic to your native language? The next version of Yaaic is fully translatable!

You only need to edit the strings.xml file. After that you can send me your new file or if you are experienced in using git you can fork Yaaic at Github and add the file yourself.

Iseebi is currently creating a japanese version. I tried to create a german version but the english words for most IRC stuff are more common here than a forced german version.

Yaaic 0.4.1 - Bugfix release

Just released Yaaic 0.4 - now there's Yaaic 0.4.1. Had to fix some annoying bugs:

  • When using the Reconnect-Feature (Settings) - Yaaic sometimes did reconnect even when you disconnected yourself (even when "exit" was used)

Yaaic 0.4 released

The next release of Yaaic is ready for downloading. Most people wanted these three features and they are included in this release:

  • You can now define channels to automatically join after connect
  • You can setup a list of commands to execute after connect
  • Enable "Reconnect" in the Settings menu and Yaaic will try to reconnect after a disconnect appeared.

There have been a lot of more improvements including bugfixes and new commands. See the changelog for a list of everything that has changed.

Download Yaaic 0.4

Have fun with the new release! :)

Yaaic @ Android Market

Since today Yaaic is available at the official Android Market! :) Use the QR-Code to the left to search for Yaaic in the Market. Or use the following link (this only works from an Android device): Yaaic (Market).

Of corse you are still able to download Yaaic here if you don't like the Market or if you just can't use it.

Yaaic has an awesome icon!

Günther from androidicons.com created an awesome icon for Yaaic. I really love it and it will be definitely in the next release of Yaaic :)

Instead of donating to Yaaic, go ahead and donate to androidicons.com. They also have some very nice free icons for your Android projects there.

Yaaic 0.2 released

It's just one week ago since I released Yaaic 0.1. Now, after 6 days and 57 commits,  it's time to release Yaaic 0.2. There have been a lot of bugfixes and enhancements. See the changelog for a complete list of what has changed.

The last version had an ugly bug causing some messages to appear in the wrong channels / queries. Therefore it's recommend to upgrade to Yaaic 0.2! As you may have noticed I dropped the word "beta" from the name, but as long as there's a 0 at the beginning of the version number Yaaic should be considered as Beta version. :)

Download Yaaic 0.2

Have fun with the new release! :)

I uploaded some new screenshots showing the current version.

Yaaic 0.1 Beta released

It's finally done. The first beta release of Yaaic is available for download. Have fun testing! But remember: This is a beta release. There may be some bugs (currently I don't know any but there will be some probably).

Download Yaaic 0.1 (Beta)

If you encounter a bug it would be awesome if you could post a small description of the steps to reproducs at the issue tracker.

By the way there's a new video at vimeo (currently processing) showing some of the features of Yaaic. And hey, there's now a Facebook Page for Yaaic. :)

Development News #3

Yeah, there was a long break in the development process of Yaaic. I was quite unmotivated developing on Yaaic and I had a lot of other stuff to do but the last days I was excited about continuing :)

If you are interessted in the sourcecode or the development steps, you may want to follow the stream at Github: http://github.com/pocmo/Yaaic

The screenshot on the left shows the current server list (green = connected, orange = connecting, red = disconnected). It looks boring currently but maybe I'll get some help with the graphics after there's a first beta release. There's also need for a Yaaic logo or icon! :)

Development News #2

I finally got my T-Mobile G1 and now I'm even more motivated to continue developing Yaaic. :)

In the screenshots section you'll find some new screenshots of the new GUI.

In addition to that the IRC connections are now handled by a service in the background and will continue to exist even if you close the application as long as you decide to be online in IRC.

Yaaic can now handle multiple server connections. Yeah, multiserver support! :) But its currently only in the background, so you actually don't see anything of this at the moment. :)

Check out the screenshots! I hope I can deliver a first beta version to the beta testers soon.

Development News #1

Yaaic is already quite useable and as the client is the homepage is also still in some beta (or even alpha) state.

The client now has a nice transparent background enabling you to view what's behind the client. There are some screenshots available!

Currently I'm implementing multichannel and multiserver support as there's only a single window for everything as by now :)

In the Videos section is now a video of the early development version. Stay tuned for further updates :)
